Microsoft to distribute Vista until January 2011

Windows 7 RC is out today and will be gold in few months. Just because windows 7 is right around the corner doesn’t mean Microsoft intends to sweep Vista under their rug and forget about it. It’s confirmed that Microsoft’s policy to back an OS for at least 4 years from launch, i.e. January 2011 will be applied for Windows Vista as well. Despite the minimum support year policy, most Windows variants have seen longer lifecycles. Windows XP is a good example as it had mainstream support for eight years after launch. Windows Vista Business and Enterprise users will still receive security updates till April 2017. Well, it’s good to see people still having options to go with vista, but personally, I don’t expect a lot of OEMs or consumers will be opting for it once Windows 7 is released.
